Agartala, September 03, 2024: Tripura state BJP President Rajib Bhattacharjee has been elected to Rajya Sabha in the byelection to the house of elders held Tuesday. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha sent his heartfelt congratulations to Bhattacharjee for his “resounding victory” in the Rajya Sabha for the lone seat in Tripura.
“I firmly believe that he will play a significant role in our collective efforts to build a prosperous Tripura”, Dr Saha commented in a statement.
The Chief Minister earlier joined BJP MLAs and those of two alliance partners to cast votes in the byelection conducted in the Tripura Legislative Assembly building premises.
Rajib Bhattacharjee polled 47 votes followed by Sudhan Das of CPI(M) who secured 10 votes. All three Congress MLAs boycotted the election on plea of alleged misrule in the state.
