AGARTALA, October 11 2021: Tripura CPI(M) lost another veteran Bijan Dhar, Chairman of left front – an alliance of communist parties – on wee hours of Monday. His demise sent shock wave to the party ranks in wake of passing away of state party secretary Gautam Das on September 16.
Bijan Dhar died at a private hospital in Kolkata where he was admitted after contracting Covid-19. He recovered recently, but died of post coronavirus complications.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb paid a visit to the residence of Bijan Dhar here in the evening after his mortal remains were flown in from Kolkata. Deb earlier in a message expressed his shock and conveyed his prayer.
The body is being kept at the CPI(M) party office in Sonamura where he was born, brought up and associated with the communist movement. Body will be brought back in the morning and will be kept at the CPI(M) west Tripura divisional office for people to pay tribute.
It was planned that mortal remains will be donated to the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) for research purposes to respect wishes of the leader. However Bijan Dhar is likely to be cremated as the college authorities are reluctant to accept body of someone contracted Covid-19.
CPI(M) said a final decision will be make known tomorrow morning.
