VMB Krishnan new Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Command

REGIONAL: Lieutenant General VMB Krishnan has taken over as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command succeeding Lieutenant General RC Tiwari who retired on 31 March 2026. Commissioned into the Indian Army on June 11 1988, General Krishnan brings nearly 40 years of military experience including diverse command, staff and instructional roles in challenging operational environments. 

He has led an Infantry Battalion and Brigade in Siachen's high-altitude terrain, commanded an Infantry Division, and the elite Brahmastra Corps. In strategic roles, he served as Director General Information Technology at the Ministry of Defence (Army) and as Defence Attaché in London. 

Before his current role, he was Quarter Master General at Army Headquarters, where he led crucial reforms in supply chain management and infrastructure, enhancing operational readiness. Krishnan also serves as Colonel of The Dogra Regiment and Dogra Scouts and his leadership at the Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School set training and doctrinal benchmarks. 

Upon assuming command, he honoured fallen soldiers, urging the Eastern Command to uphold operational preparedness, strengthen jointness, accelerate technological integration and maintain collaboration with stakeholders to ensure peace and stability in the Eastern theatre.
