Royal scion makes Purna Jamatia new TTAADC CEM

KHUMULWNG, April 19 2021: In sharp contrast to expectations, TIPRA Motha Chairman and Tripura’s royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarman has stayed away from becoming the Chief Executive Member (CEM) in the TTAADC. He rather nominated a low profile and calm politician Purna Chandra Jamatia for the top post.

CEM is attributed as important as the Chief Minister of a state for the residents of the TTAADC which has limited authority over three fourth lands of Tripura.

After TIPRA Motha’s convincing victory in the recently held elections to the TTAADC, it was widely believed that Pradyot Kishore Debbarman will be the next CEM as his supporters desperately wanted. His refusal however is seen as his ploy to play a more important role in state’s politics.

18 elected TIPRA Motha members took oath at the council hall Monday while 9 BJP members abstained to protest alleged reign of terror in hills. One independent who won in elections to 28 member council also marked his abstention.

Under provisions of sixth schedule of the constitution, formalities to appoint new Chairman and CEM were completed soon after members were administered oath. Veteran leader Jagadish Debbarma was made the Chairman, a position similar to the Speaker of state assembly, and Purna Chandra Jamatia as the CEM.

Newly nominated CEM and Executive Members will take oath of office and secrecy Tuesday.
