REGIONAL: The Deputy Commissioner of Chumoukedima in Nagaland, Polan John, announced that April 9, the polling day for the General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Assam, will be recognised as a paid holiday. This decision aligns with Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, aimed at facilitating registered voters to exercise their voting rights.
The paid holiday applies to all registered voters employed in businesses, trades, industrial undertakings, or other establishments in Nagaland, including those engaged in shift work, daily wage or casual employment.
However, the notification specifies that the holiday does not extend to electors whose absence may pose a danger or lead to substantial loss in their respective employment. Employers are mandated to comply with this order, ensuring that voters can participate in the electoral process without hindrance.
