KOHIMA, July 01 2021: Nagaland state government Thursday announced with profound sorrow the demise of Advisor, Information & Public Relations, SCERT and Village Guards, Toshi Wungtung after brief illness at New Delhi. A State Funeral will be accorded on July 3 at 8 a.m. in his Residence at Dimapur to pay last respect and homage to the departed leader.
Mortal remains of late Toshi Wungtung to arrive at Dimapur Friday
Principal Secretary, Home, Abhijit Sinha has informed that the mortal remains of Late Toshi Wungtung, Advisor, Information & Public Relation, SCERT, Village Guards, who breathed his last, in the morning hours of Thursday at New Delhi, will reach Dimapur on July 2.
The mortal remains will be kept at his residence in Purana Bazar, Dimapur for people to pay their last respects from 4 p.m. onwards following Covid-19 appropriate behaviour. The State Funeral for Late Toshi Wungtung which will be held the next day, Saturday, at his residence from 8 p.m. onwards will be live streamed on MyGov Nagaland Youtube, Facebook Channels and can be viewed online also.
Department of Information & Public Relations condoles
The Department of Information & Public Relations has condoled the untimely demise of Late Toshi Wungtung, Advisor, IPR, SCERT and Village Guards, Government of Nagaland, who passed away after a brief illness at New Delhi.
In a condolence message to his wife Lipokla, Commissioner & Secretary, IPR, V Maria Yanthan, and Director, IPR Er Z Tokishe Sema recalled Late Toshi Wungtung as a visionary and a remarkable political leader, who served with utmost dedication and compassion, and dedicated his life for the welfare of the people.
The Officers and staff of the Department of Information & Public Relations remember Late Toshi Wungtung as a warm personality who was highly respected and regarded by all of us. He shared a good rapport with all, and was ever willing to extend his ideas, help and support for the progress of the Department. His death is an irreplaceable loss to the society in general and to the Department in particular, and he will be remembered for all his contributions.
Late Toshi Wungtung was also an activist and a learned scholar endowed with good oratory skills. He was an active student leader who played a pivotal role in various students’ organizations in his earlier years. He has also left behind an indelible mark in the field of research, and being a storehouse of knowledge, he carried out research works on social complexities including the current political and economic issues confronting the affairs of the State of Nagaland.
At this hour of loss and grief, all Officers and staff of the Department share in feeling of bereavement with Late Toshi Wungtung’s family and loved ones and pray that the Almighty may grant solace for the pain and sorrow at this hour.

“I am shocked at the sudden untimely demise of Toshi Wungtung, MLA & Advisor to the Government of Nagaland today at New Delhi while undergoing treatment.
Late Toshi Wungtung tirelessly and selflessly worked for the better future of the youth. He dedicated his life to building a peaceful and prosperous Nagaland.
He was a visionary leader whose contributions towards upliftment of the relatively less developed people of eastern Nagaland will be remembered for years to come.
In his demise, the country and the state has lost a promising and dynamic young leader.
