AGARTALA: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha reiterated his commitment to maintaining law and order in the state and pledged to take every necessary action against those responsible for violence. His remarks followed a visit to Khowai district Tuesday, where he met with families affected by recent violent attacks.
Dr Saha expressed unhappiness over rise in violence following the declaration of the TTAADC election results on April 17, which included reports of targeted attacks, arson and assaults, and damage to properties creating a dangerous situation. He recounted his efforts to monitor developments while on an election campaign in West Bengal, highlighting a meeting with political leaders to address the escalating violence in areas like West, South and Khowai districts.
Chief Minister described the unrest as akin to a cancer that requires urgent intervention, recalling similar patterns of violence dating back to 1970, attributing the tension to various political parties, including Congress, CPI(M) and Tipra Motha. During his visit, he encountered families displaced and living in camps, assuring them of government support and protection.
He later chaired a meeting with senior civil and security officials to strategise on improving the law and order situation.
Dr Saha remained resolute that violence cannot be tolerated, stating that the government's measures includes providing protection for the public, delivering financial assistance and ensuring justice through the arrest of perpetrators. DGP Anurag, Chief Secretary JK Sinha and BJP MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury accompanied Chief Minister in Khowai.
