KOHIMA, November 1, 2019: The 2nd Nagaland Film Festival got underway at Capital Convention Centre, Kohima on October 31. The two-day event is being organised by the Department of Information & Public Relations (DIPR), Government of Nagaland, and Film Association of Nagaland (FAN).
Gracing the inaugural function, Advisor, Toshi Wungtung said film industry will help the north-east states to connect with the mainland as well as the outside world.
Vikramjit Roy, Head- FFO, NFDC, Ministry of I&B Govt. of India assured that the Ministry will work with Nagaland to take film industry forward.
On the huge impact of film’s contribution to revenue and employment generation, Roy felt that Nagaland must have a film cell and film policy.
In this festival, 28 films have entered in the competition and another 28 in the non-competition category. Apart from screening films from all the North Eastern states, the festival featured master class, panel discussion and awards.
The objective of the festival is to promote films in Nagaland and the North East states of India, and to provide a platform for filmmakers in the region.
On day one, the festival screened “Aamis" (Fiction)- Assam, “Under the Longpfurr Sky” (Documentary)- Nagaland, “Chori” (Documentary)-, “Last Wish” (Fiction)- Mizoram, Ma’ama (Fiction)- Meghalaya, “40 Years Through The Lenses (Documentary) - Arunachal Pradesh, “Kwtham Kothoma” (Fiction)- Tripura and “Xopunor Xety” (Fiction)- Assam.
Films to be screened on November 1 from 10 am onwards include; “Ima Sabitri" (Documentary)- Manipur, “Protyush" (Drama)- Assam, “Achoubi In Love” ( Documentary)- Manipur, “The Lost Art Of Artisanal Textiles" ( Document0ary)- Nagaland, “Village Rockstars” (Fiction)- Assam, “This Road I Know” (Documentary)- Manipur, “Bairabi- Zophai: Where We Bled For Our Land” (Documentary)- Mizoram, “Mistake” (Drama)- Assam and “Dhokbu” (Action Adventure)- Sikkim.
Award presentation and closing ceremony occurred on Friday. Chief Secretary, Temjen Toy graced the function which has been chaired by filmmaker, Sophy Lasuh while IPR Director, Limawati proposed vote of thanks.
