Senior Tipra Motha leaders join BJP ahead of council polls

AGARTALA: The battle for the TTAADC elections has become increasingly interesting as leaders and workers from major contesting parties continue to switch sides. In the latest development, a number of leaders from Tipra Motha have defected to the BJP Monday in the presence of Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha Monday.

The BJP has welcomed the joining of Tipra Matha's women's wing General Secretary Marry Debbarma, Surma Block General Secretary Birjit Debbarma, Surma Block Vice President Sanju Debbarma and Rinku Debbarma at the BJP's state office . The Chief Minister and State President Rajib Bhattacharjee were present at this joining programme.

Recently, two Tipra Motha elected TTAADC members had also joined the BJP and are now contesting against their former party. Tipra Motha has been the ruling party in the TTAADC, while the BJP is the main opposition.

However, the BJP is claiming a massive anti-incumbency in their favour for the upcoming election on April 12. The CPI(M)-led left front, which failed to win any seats in the 2021 elections, is hoping for a better outcome, and the Congress-led alliance is also in the race.
