NATIONAL, November 29, 2024: The Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita has highlighted the government's commitment to equipping India's youth with skills and tools to lead the nation towards a Viksit Bharat. He lauded the Ministry of Textiles' initiatives, including the SAMARTH Scheme, which provides training to enhance employability and productivity in the evolving textiles sector.
Margherita attributed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Skill Development as one of the top priorities of the government, which will eventually take India on the path of development.
The Textile Ministry encourages training through the Samarth Yojana providing high-end looms and yearns at subsidized rates. 3.48 lakh beneficiaries have been trained, with 79% provided placement and 3.6 lakh women beneficiaries trained.
The Ministry also works for Dakshta Aur Kushalta Vikas with 88% being women beneficiaries. The National Technical Textile Mission and grants for research and entrepreneurship are also significant.
The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) consolidates the training ecosystem post 2014 under Modi's vision to make India the "Skill Capital" of the world. Post-2014, there are 36 Sector Skill Councils representing approximately 40,000 companies, 978 ITIs with Dual System of Training, 13 Flexi MoUs, and CSR for training. Since 2014, the government has initiated various schemes to harness India's youth and transform the training and entrepreneurial ecosystem.
India, with an age of 28.7 years, stands as one of the youngest countries in the world, offering significant opportunities for economic growth and global leadership. In 2022-2024, the number of apprentices engaged in the textiles industry doubled to 35229.
