REGIONAL: The Bye-election for the 28 Koridang Assembly Constituency was held on Thursday achieving an estimated voter turnout of 82.21% across all 30 polling stations, according to Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer Bhagyashree Banayat. Following the polling, the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines were kept securely in designated strong rooms.
This storage was conducted under strict security measures in the presence of candidates or their representatives, along with Central Observers mandated by the Election Commission of India. The protocols included a two-tier armed security setup (minimum one platoon), constant CCTV surveillance and the inclusion of reserve EVMs and VVPATs in a separate Reserve Strong Room.
All candidates received written notification to appoint representatives for overseeing the security arrangements of the strong rooms. These representatives are allowed to stay outside the inner perimeter of the security area to monitor the processes and CCTV feeds of the strong rooms were made accessible for their observation.
The strong rooms are scheduled to be opened on the counting day, again in the presence of the contesting candidates or their representatives and the Central Observers, with the entire process being recorded through videography.
