Demise of prominent Khasi leader HS Shylla mourned

SHILLONG, August 09 2020: Members of Synjuk Ki Rangbah Kur: Ka Bri U Hynñiewtrep expressed its shock at the sudden demise of the Founding President of the organisation Hispreachering Son Shylla. The former Chief Executive Member of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council was instrumental of certain vital legislation for protection of legitimate rights of the Khasi community and before his retirement from politics, he formed the conglomeration of Khasi Clan Elders on January 7 2019.
Thereafter rigorous campaigns are being organised throughout Khasi Jaintia Hills for public participation in furthering the interest of the community through legislation, particularly The Clan Bill and other enacted laws in the State. The Synjuk offered condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal rest of the departed soul.
Hispreachering Son Shylla will be remembered in the annals of history for certain initiatives to safeguard the ethnic identity of the Khasi community. The most significant being the recognition of Seng Khasi as an institutional authority with legal entity to conduct the marriage ceremony and the consecration of new clans according to traditional customs and usages.
BJP MLA Sanbor Shullai has condoled passing away of Shylla. He said, "It greatly pains me to convey my sincere feeling and great sorrow at the sudden demise of my loving friend Hispreaching Son Shylla."
He said the departed leader was an architect of the 'Clan Administration Bill' to strengthen the matrilineal system besides many others.
