AGARTALA, February 22, 2025: Tripura government has strengthened the tax system to prevent tax evasion and increase revenue. The state budget, which depends on revenue income, will be presented in the assembly next month, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said while participating in the in the GST Jaagrookta Abhiyan here Saturday.
He said last year, the state budget was around Rs 27,800 crore, with revenue income of Rs 3,700 crore.
“The state has also had to repay debt taken by the previous government, leaving only about Rs 10,000 crore remaining. The state's revenue has significantly increased compared to previous years.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for a Vikshit Bharat by 2047 requires the growth of the revenue sector. The state's budget will be presented in the assembly next month and will be based on revenue income.
The Chief Minister stated that he believes that GST is a revolutionary tax reform in India and encourages people to participate in awareness programs.
The total GST collection from 2017-18 to 2023-24 stands at Rs 510.70 crore. The IGST collection has crossed Rs 1,000 crore due to policies, efficient administration, and technological advancements. Special emphasis has been placed on works contracts, brick kilns, rubber, and real estate sectors.
The primary goal is to simplify the tax system and prevent tax evasion. The GST Analytical and Intelligent Network and AIO technology have been implemented to detect fraud, and active surveillance has been introduced.
