BIG: BJP top brass meets Himanta, Dr Sharma in Delhi
Announcement on alliance issues with TIPRA and IPFT anytime

AGARTALA, January 22 2023: In a major development BJP top brass met Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and party’s Tripura Prabhari Dr Mahesh Sharma at New Delhi Sunday evening to finalise issues pertaining alliance with the TIPRA (Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance) and it’s old coalition partner IPFT.
The meeting also adopted a decision on issue of ‘Greater Tipraland’ which has been the bone of contention between the TIPRA and the BJP in hitherto dialogue initiated by Himanta Biswa Sarma, who stitched BJP’s bond with the regional parties in northeast India over past seven years.
Details of the decisions were not immediately known.
Sources said BJP’s announcement on decisions of alliance and ‘Greater Tipraland’ as well as other important election issues will be declared soon.
TIPRA Chief Maharaja Pradyot Kishore Debbarman has reportedly told the BJP that they want a written assurance on the separate state demand from the Ministry of Home Affairs if the alliance has to be forged at all.
Meanwhile IPFT which is now almost defunct has broken into three factions with one faction wanting to merge with the TIPRA, the other with the BJP and third to remain as an alliance partner of the BJP in Tripura.
Election to 60-member Tripura state assembly will be held on February 16 and counting simultaneously with Meghalaya and Nagaland will take place on March 2.
