Tripura Chief Minister calls for promotion of folk dances

Delivered message on occasion of the International Dance Day

AGARTALA, April 29 2022: Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb called for promotion and preservation of the folk dances of Tripura. He spoke on occasion of the International Dance Day observed Friday. 

Chief Minister in his social media page wrote – ‘Let us all promote and preserve folk dances of our state’ with #InternationalDanceDay. 

As commemoration of the day, Department of Music, Tripura University, inaugurated a weeklong International Kathak Dance Workshop in virtual mode. 

Dr Ajay Kumar M Savane, Department of Music, Tripura University, who is the Convenor of the workshop, informed. He said the theme of the workshop is “Kathak Dance and Its Multidimensional Aspects and Modern Techniques of the Traditional Composition.”

International Dance Day is a worldwide celebration of dance, created by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute, the main partner for the performing arts of UNESCO.

The occasion takes place every year on April 29 which is the anniversary of the birth of Jean-Georges Noverre, the creator of modern ballet.
