AGARTALA: Tripura Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen passed away Friday morning at the age of 72 after being under treatment in Bengaluru for several months. He is survived by his children and widowed wife.
In respect of Sen, the state government declared a holiday Friday and three days of state mourning. His last rites are scheduled to take place in his home constituency, Dharmanagar tomorrow.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tripura Governor and Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha are among leaders across party lines to express their condolences. Modi highlighted Sen's dedication to the progress of Tripura and his commitment to social causes.
Dr Saha remarked on the significant loss to the people of Tripura due to Sen's untimely death.
The Dharmanagar Press Club, in a heart-rending readout expressed profound sorrow, stating that Sen's contributions to the political and social landscape of the state were substantial and that he would be remembered for his cooperation with the media and his dedication to the development.
