South Tripura DFO flees to evade detention, untraced

By Web Desk Apr 29, 2026 101

AGARTALA: South Tripura District Forest Officer (DFO), Gourab Rabindra Waga, has gone into hiding following investigations related to the seizure of Rs 60 lakh from a close relative. His maternal uncle, Rajendra Kaklij, was arrested at the Agartala Railway Station recently while attempting to board a train.

This incident transpired on the same day that Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha addressed the media, claiming his administration's commitment to transparency in tackling irregularities and criminal activities underlining that the case is under investigation.

Waga, an officer of the Indian Forest Service (IFS), faces serious allegations of financial irregularities and extortion particularly concerning bribery for contract assignments. It has been reported that his relatives orchestrated the movement of the seized cash via railway routes to avoid detection through electronic means at airports.

Just prior to a police team visiting his office in connection with the investigation, Waga reportedly abandoned his mobile phone at his office chamber.

Consequently, Rajendra Kaklij, the arrested uncle, has been remanded to police custody until May 4 for further interrogation regarding the cash haul. He is currently held at the NCC Police Station as part of the ongoing inquiries into the matter.
