AGARTALA, September 08, 2024: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha stressed the importance of seat belts and helmets in preventing accidents while driving. He also highlighted the need for regular monitoring of these practices, especially for those riding bikes and scooters.
Dr Saha made these remarks at a function organised by the Department of Transport, where the state government distributed 16 vehicles and issued general traffic rules and guidelines in Agartala Sunday. The Chief Minister also distributed helmets among journalists and inaugurated a 30-day driving training program for women at the Institute of Driving Training and Research (IDTR) in Jirania.
Dr Saha expressed hope that the people of Tripura would become more aware of road safety and take necessary precautions to prevent accidents. He cited recent natural disasters, such as floods, as examples of the state's efforts to address safety concerns.
The Chief Minister stressed the importance of preventing accidents with a sense of humanity and called for cooperation between relevant government departments. Statistics, in the last six years, there have been 3,307 road accidents in Tripura resulting in 1,340 deaths and 3,724 injuries.
Dr Saha also highlighted the formation of a State Road Safety Council and a State Road Safety Committee to address these concerns.
