AGARTALA: The Tipra Motha has retained power in the TTAADC by winning a thumping majority and routing other contesting parties. While the CPI(M) and Congress scored zero, the BJP secured four seats, a decrease of five seats from the 2021 elections.
The key takeaway from the TTAADC election results declared Friday are that Tipra Motha has consolidated its organisation in the hills and in places where the votes of the Tiprasa population matter. The BJP visibly failed to yield from its high-voltage campaign.
Pradyot Kishore Manikya, founder of the regional party and head of Tripura's royal family, has started gaining hype in projection as a chief ministerial candidate in the 2028 assembly elections.
Another significant feature is the decline of some top leaders of the Tipra Motha who, for the wrong reasons, expected a whitewash for their own party and saw their prospects in the BJP. They have become isolated in the party and it is only a matter of time before they are compelled to make an exit.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, who shouldered the entire campaign for his party, the BJP, made the best of his efforts to offer good governance and a corruption-free administration in the TTAADC that has a limited administrative authority in the state's three-fourths of the land.
The Chief Minister's persistent and reasonable attempts to connect with people, mainly the Tiprasa, did not materialise, although his party received a better chunk of votes after Tipra Motha. Regardless of the results, the Chief Minister congratulated Tipra Motha for their victory and praised the tireless efforts of BJP Karyakartas in the elections.
Dr Saha said he saw the poll outcome as an opportunity to learn and make a comeback.
