ReD&GoNE 2026: Pathways for Inclusive and Sustainable Futures

REGIONAL: The inaugural session of the two-day National Conference on Reimagining Development and Governance in North-East India (ReD&GoNE 2026), themed “Pathways for Inclusive and Sustainable Futures,” took place at Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung. This event was co-organised by the Departments of Economics, Political Science and Sociology at the college with sponsorship from the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). 

The conference commenced with a keynote address by Prof Lanu Aier, a retired professor from the Department of Sociology at North Eastern Hill University (NEHU). The welcome address was rendered by Dr I Wati Imchen, the principal of Fazl Ali College and patron of ReD&GoNE 2026. 

In the technical sessions, resource speakers included Amba Jamir, Senior Policy Analyst and Development Strategist from Guwahati, who delivered a talk titled “From Frontier to Pivot: Reimagining Development and Governance in Peripheral Landscapes.” This was followed by Prof TT Haokip, a professor in Political Science at NEHU, discussing “Federalism and the Crisis of Governance in Northeast India: The Case of Manipur and Meghalaya.” 

Dr Limakumba Walling, an Assistant Professor at the School of Economics, University of Hyderabad, spoke on “Overcoming the Permanent Transition Trap: Reimagining Development in Nagaland.” Parallel paper presentation sessions were also conducted, featuring diverse scholarly contributions on various topics, underscoring the conference’s commitment to exploring inclusive strategies for development and governance in North-East India.
