Tournament aims to encourage women footballers from tea estates

AGARTALA, December 18, 2025: The Luxmi Group One-Day Inter-Garden Women’s Football Tournament – 2nd Edition (Tripura Zone) was successfully held recently at the Golokpur Tea Estate Football Ground in Unakoti district, Tripura marking another significant step towards the promotion of women’s sports and empowerment within the tea garden community.
Organised as an annual sporting initiative, the tournament aims to encourage teamwork, discipline and confidence among women footballers from various tea estates of the company under the Tripura Zone. This year’s edition witnessed enthusiastic participation and strong community engagement reflecting the growing popularity of women’s football in the region.
Teams representing Pearacherra Tea Estate, Golokpur Tea Estate, Manu Valley Tea Estate, and Kalishasan Tea Estate competed in a series of spirited and competitive matches that attracted large and supportive crowds throughout the day.
In the final match, Manu Valley Tea Estate emerged as the champion, defeating Kalishasan Tea Estate by 2–0 in a closely fought contest. Kalishasan Tea Estate secured the position of runners-up after a commendable performance in the tournament.
The prize and medal distribution ceremony was conducted in a warm and dignified manner. The occasion was graced by the wives of the management executives, who personally distributed trophies and medals to the players. Their presence underscored the management’s encouragement and strong support for women’s participation in sports across the tea garden communities.
The tournament concluded on a highly positive and inspiring note, motivating women players to pursue football with renewed confidence and determination. The successful conduct of the event reaffirmed Luxmi’s continued commitment to women empowerment, community development, and the promotion of sports at the grassroots level.
