Tripura assembly speaker Bishwabandhu Sen critically hurt

He suffered brain haemorrhage after fall at Agartala railway station

AGARTALA, August 08, 2025: Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly Biswa Bandhu Sen suffered a brain hemorrhage after he fell to the floor of the lavatory at the Agartala railway station on Friday. He was rushed to the nearest medical facility, Tripura Medical College and Hospital, where doctors advised immediate brain surgery.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha wished him a complete recovery and the best as the physicians were completing their medical formalities.

Sen was to board a train to travel to Dharmanagar, his home constituency, when the mishap occurred. 

The Speaker, who was first elected in the 2013 assembly elections, served as a Deputy Speaker in the state assembly prior to his elevation. He was a long-time Congressional representative, but joined BJP in 2017.

Bishwabandhu Sen has also been a theatre actor and cultural activist.
