UPA govt was corrupt, BJP driving development: CM

By BJP PR Mar 29, 2026 89

SILCHAR: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha lashed out at the erstwhile Congress-led UPA government as a corrupt government claiming under the BJP’s tenure the country is now moving forward in the direction of development under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He said that people have hope and trust in the Prime Minister, and the victory of the BJP candidate in Silchar in the upcoming Assam state assembly elections is assured.

Dr Saha was speaking at an election meeting organised at Kirtania Ground on Satsang Ashram Road in Silchar ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Assam.

The Chief Minister Sunday led the campaign in support of the Bharatiya Janata Party-nominated candidate Dr Rajdeep Roy at this victory rally.

While speaking at the public meeting, Dr. Saha said, “I can say with guarantee that BJP candidate Dr. Rajdeep Roy will win the upcoming elections with a huge number of votes. You are all aware of our Tripura. We fought against the long 35-year rule of the communists. For a long time, they carried out misrule in Tripura. And the bell to get rid of it rang when Narendra Modi took charge as the Prime Minister of the country in 2014. And today, that bell has rung here too.”

The Chief Minister said in the rally that the TTAADC elections and by-elections in the Dharmanagar Assembly constituency in Tripura will be held in Tripura, which are very important for the state.

“Nevertheless, I have come here today in response to your call. I feel that coming to Silchar means coming to Agartala. Many people here have ties with Tripura. Many people here are permanently residing in Tripura,” said Dr Saha.

Dr Saha said that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will campaigning.

“I am sure that you (electorate of Silchar assembly constituency) will send Dr Rajdeep Roy to the assembly with a huge margin of votes. Before Narendra Modi took office as Prime Minister in 2014, there were doubts about the future of this country. Our soldiers were being killed and left on the soil of the country. The Parliament building was attacked. Innocent people were killed in Mumbai. We used to see a corrupt government during the Congress and UPA rule. We have also seen a corrupt government in Assam. But after our Prime Minister came, we have seen how to run a government with transparency,” Dr Saha stated.

The Chief Minister said everyone knows what the situation was in the North Eastern region earlier.

“And now the Prime Minister has named the North Eastern region Ashtalakshmi. He says that if the states of the North Eastern region do not develop, the country will not develop either. Today, the Prime Minister has implemented an Act East Policy for the development of the North Eastern region,” said Dr. Saha.

Silchar MP Parimal Shukla Baidya, BJP candidate Dr Rajdeep Roy, MLA Dipayan Chakraborty, MLA Nihar Kanti Das, former district president Bimalendu Roy and other senior leaders of the BJP were present at the rally.
