Tripura: AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder takes oath as MLA

Unclear if he would resign as Mayor or continue to hold both roles

Agartala, June 19, 2024: Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder was sworn in as a member of the Tripura assembly Wednesday. He won the by-election for the Ramnagar assembly constituency on April 19.

The oath of secrecy was administered by Assembly Speaker Bishwabandhu Sen in the presence of Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and other leaders.

Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman also attended the ceremony.

Majumder expressed his commitment to effectively fulfilling his duties and thanked the people for their support.

The BJP-led alliance now holds 47 seats in the 60-member assembly, while the opposition Communist Party of India (Marxist) has 10 seats and Congress three. It is unclear whether Majumder will resign from his position as Mayor or continue to hold both roles.
