Security men destroy 10,000 cannabis saplings

AGARTALA, September 13 2021: Security forces destroyed some 10,000 Cannabis saplings in a three-hour long raid in Sonamura of Sepahijala district Monday. The cultivation was being carried out at the reserved forest land in Rahimpur area of Sonamura subdivision.
The raids were conducted based on a tip-off that the Cannabis kingpins started fresh cultivation in reserved forests of Sonamura subdivision which edges border with Bangladesh.
The destruction of plants started at 10 a.m. and ended at 1 p.m.
Tripura has been known as a provider of narcotics like Cannabis, but incumbent state government headed by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb engaged security forces to bring end to the menace.
In past over three years, tonnes of Cannabis, locally known as Ganja, were seized at different places of the state and scores of people including cartel leaders were arrested.
