Sales on 'Gandhi Jayanti' surpass Rs 2 crore at Khadi Bhawan
PM appealed to buy 'Vocal for Local' and 'Made in India' products

NATIONAL, October 04, 2024: On Gandhi Jayanti, the flagship Khadi Bhawan in New Delhi recorded the highest sale of Khadi and Village Industry products in the country's history. The sale which took place on October 2 was attributed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'brand power' and the 'Charkha Kranti' booming under his leadership.
The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) Chairman Manoj Kumar attributed the unprecedented sale of Bapu's legacy Khadi to Modi's appeal to the people to buy 'Made in India' and local products under the 'Vocal for Local' campaign during the festive season.
The latest sales figures show that Khadi and Village Industry products worth Rs 2.01 crore were sold at the Khadi Bhawan in Connaught Place, Delhi on Gandhi Jayanti. The products included cotton Khadi worth Rs 67.32 lakh, silk Khadi worth Rs 44.75 lakh, woolen Khadi worth Rs 7.61 lakh, poly Khadi worth Rs 1.87 lakh, readymade Khadi worth Rs 65.09 lakh village industry products worth Rs 12.29 lakh, and handicraft products worth Rs 2.44 lakh.
The maximum sale of cotton Khadi took place on the day, with a 150.35 percent increase from the previous year. The increasing sales of readymade merchandise are a symbol of the youth's rapid adoption of khadi.
