In wake of loss of lives in tragic train accident in West Bengal

AGARTALA, June 17, 2024: President Droupadi Murmu expressed deep grief over the tragic train accident in Darjeeling, West Bengal, Monday, and expressed her thoughts and prayers for the bereaved families. She prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and for the success of relief and rescue operations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his grief over the train accident in West Bengal, expressing condolences to the families of the deceased and wishing for their recovery. “Rescue operations are underway, and Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnab is on the way to the site”, he wrote in X.
Modi has announced an ex-gratia of two lakh rupees from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund, to be given to the next of kin of each deceased and 50 thousand rupees to the injured.
