AGARTALA, June 25, 2024: Tripura's cabinet spokesperson and senior minister Sushanta Chowdhury Tuesday addressed concerns about the Tripura Santiniketan Medical College, which is currently being built near Agartala. The minister also refuted allegations of corruption and rule violations in the approval of the private college, which is awaiting inspection by the National Medical Council.
Chowdhury made these statements at a press conference, a day after CPI(M) state secretary and leader of the opposition, Jitendra Chowdhury, made a series of accusations against the state government and the college management, suggesting corruption at all levels.
He stated that the state government supports the establishment of private ventures for the overall development of the state and that transparency has been maintained with rules being followed as necessary.
When asked about the permission granted to use the government IGM Hospital as a teaching hospital for the proposed medical college, Chowdhury pointed out that there are many similar cases in the country. He also criticised a section of the media for reporting negative news based on CPI(M) allegations.
