AGARTALA, February 12, 2020: The 23rdONGC Lucky- Srivastava Football Tournament organized by ONGC Tripura Asset is scheduled from February 15 to 22 at Umakanta School Ground in Agartala.
The tournament will be kicked off by Member of Parliament of Tripura (West) Pratima Bhowmik in the presence of Asset Manager ONGC Tripura OP Singh on February 15 at 1pm.
To promote women’s football in Tripura and other North-Eastern states, ONGC has taken a unique initiative this year. On the very inaugural day, the inaugural exhibition football match will be played between two Women’s team from the state, Jampuijala Play Centre and Sports School.
The tournament, affiliated to All India Football Federation, will be participated by 10 teams from Tripura, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and West Bengal and the final match is scheduled on 22ndFebruary, 2020
Among the 10 participating teams, 4 are from Tripura, 2 from Manipur, 2 from Assam and one each from Mizoram and West Bengal
Prize money for the Champion team of the tournament is Rs 4 Lakh, while the Runners-up will get Rs 2 Lakh.
The tournament is held in the memory of two ONGCians Justin Lucky and SK Srivastava, who bravely fell to the bullets of militants in 1992.
Speaking on the occasion Asset Manager OPSingh said that the tournament is ONGC’s initiative to promote football among the people of Tripura and provide exposure to the football players of the State.
“Not only that,” he added, “In order to encourage Women’s Football and motivate women empowerment, we have introduced exhibition match between two women’s football team on the very inaugural day.”
He further added, “This tournament has made a place in Agartala and large number of football lovers witness the football talents exhibited by the renowned State level players. This way ONGC is joining hands with the people of North East towards promotion of football. “
Asset Manager OP Singh, along with the members of Employees’ Welfare Committee (EWC) of ONGC Tripura Asset, the organiser of the Tournament, handed over a cheque of Rs 25000 to the Sports Journalists Club, Agartala on this occasion.
