12th edition of Phom Monyiu Open Volleyball Tournament

KOHIMA: The 12th edition of the Phom Monyiu Open Volleyball Tournament was held from April 7 to 10 at Public Ground, Longleng. The tournament was organised by the Longleng Town Students’ Union in collaboration with the Longleng District Volleyball Association. 

A total of 12 teams participated in the tournament, showcasing great enthusiasm and competitive spirit.

The programme commenced with an inspiring address by the Inaugural Guest, PO, DRDA Longleng, P Angam Longho, who shared his thoughts on the growing importance of sports in today’s world, asserting that sports is no longer just a choice but can be pursued as a promising career.

The Match Patrons for the second and third days of the tournament were President PSC, Shame Phom and LT Hentok, President LDVA, whose presence and support added value and encouragement to the event.

The Valedictory Guest on the final day was Assistant Commandant Nagaland Village Guard, LK Heno Khiamniungan, lauded the organising committee for providing such a meaningful platform to the youth of Longleng. In his address, he spoke about the significance of the tournament and emphasized the importance of unity and sportsmanship—not only among the players but also among the spectators.

The tournament concluded with Anaki Phom Volleyball Association emerging as the Champion, while United Rising Sporting Club, Yimchong, secured the Runner-up position.

Individual prizes were also awarded to outstanding players: Best Spiker – Wonglom, Anaki Phom Volleyball Association, Best Setter – Abu Okla C. Phom, URSC Yimchong, Best Libero – P Shingjei Yongphang students union, Best Discipline Team – Hukphang Students Union (B), Player of the Tournament – Bauaok, Anaki Phom Volleyball Association.

The event concluded on a high note, leaving behind a strong message of discipline, unity, and the importance of sports in shaping the future of youth.
