PEC demands release of all media professionals in Myanmar

GLOBAL, December 06, 2025: The Press Emblem Campaign (PEC), an international media watchdog, is calling for the release of all media professionals in Myanmar

The organisation has expressed concern over a new election interference law that specifically targets journalists and social media users.

Currently, Myanmar is embroiled in a civil war under the military regime led by Min Aung Hlaing with significant areas outside of military control making fair elections unlikely.

PEC has highlighted the strict guidelines imposed on journalists, resulting in over 200 detentions since the coup in 2021 and forcing many to flee the country. Its representatives are hopeful for improved conditions for media professionals during the upcoming elections.
