Numerous houses damaged during ONGC’s gas exploration

AGARTALA, February 14, 2025: The ONGC has been accused of causing damage to numerous houses belonging to the indigenous community in west Tripura through the use of dynamite blasts during their gas exploration activities. As a result, the local residents have resorted to protest by halting the operation of heavy machinery.
They are demanding compensation for the damages incurred. The incident has occurred in Belbari, located in the Khumulwng area near Agartala.
Reports said 27 families have been affected by the blasts and their structures have been damaged. The affected residents are requesting monetary compensation, though the ONGC has not yet agreed to provide it.
The district administration has received complaints from the aggrieved families.
