NATIONAL, March 10, 2025: Union Minister of State Dr Jitendra Singh Monday discussed the country's pandemic preparedness for the future. He was presented a report by the NITI Aayog officials titled "Future Pandemic Preparedness and Emergency Response: A Framework for Action," which focuses on developing medical countermeasures, specifically diagnostics, vaccines and therapeutics”.
The report outlines action pathways to deploy countermeasures within 100 days of a future pandemic outbreak, requiring scaling manufacturing capacities, creating forward and backward linkages, enabling regulatory systems and demonstrating capabilities.
The Minister also discussed mobilising the Research & Development team, Infrastructure and Industry to work on potential pathogens and prototype vaccines strategically. India's inter-sectoral One Health Mission has revamped pandemic surveillance systems for potential outbreaks in future.
The success of India's vaccines during the Covid-19 pandemic was attributed to coordinated efforts across departments and the personal intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
