Night Curfew in Shillong during 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

GUWAHATI, May 03 2021: Meghalaya government has imposed night curfew in Shillong and its surrounding urban areas from during 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. effective from tomorrow, May 4. Till today the curfew hours were during 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The decision was taken in view of unabated spike in Covid-19 cases in the state especially in Shillong and its surrounding areas under East Khasi Hills District.
All shops have been asked to down shutters at 7 p.m. while office hours will end at 4.30 p.m. every day.
Meghalaya’s Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed that the government had also taken a decision regarding disposal of bodies, which would be allowed only on or before 2 p.m. every day.
This order comes into force immediately in respect of deaths occurring due to Covid-19 or any other disease as well as cause. It will be applicable for the entire state of Meghalaya.
The government has also instructed that bereaved families are restricted from opening the coffins. The families are also restricted from taking the coffin inside the house. The coffins have to be kept outside to perform the last rites.
The Meghalaya government has already enforced very strict Covid-19 restrictions and stopped the inflow of outsiders to the state unless there is an emergency.
All the education institutions, hostels etc., in the state has already been closed down because of the spike in Covid-19 cases.
