AGARTALA, December 26 2023: Surajit Datta, a long-standing figure in Tripura politics, has fallen critically ill. He has now been admitted to a private hospital and is expected to be taken to New Delhi for better treatment.

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and other prominent political figures have visited Datta. A doctor who attended ailing MLA said he is suffering from multiple ailments.

The veteran MLA has consistently won elections in his home constituency of Ramnagar with the exception of 2013. Now 70 years old, Datta was a loyal member of the Congress party before joining the BJP in 2017.
