AGARTALA, January 27, 2024: The Indian Navy has dispatched a team from its guided missile destroyer INS Visakhapatnam to aid in extinguishing a fire on the British oil tanker MV Marlin Luanda. The tanker, which has 22 Indian and one Bangladeshi crew members, was targeted by a missile attack carried out by Yemen's Houthi militants.
This is the latest in a series of incidents involving the Iran-backed group in the Gulf of Aden. In response to these attacks, the Indian Navy has increased its surveillance efforts in the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
In fact, just earlier this month, the Indian Navy responded to a distress call from a merchant vessel that was under drone attack in the Gulf of Aden. Additionally, on January 5, the Indian Navy successfully prevented the hijacking of the Liberian-flagged vessel MV Lila Norfolk in the North Arabian Sea, rescuing all crew members.
