MEA hands over a protest diplomatic note to Canadian HC representative

NATIONAL, November 02, 2024: India strongly protested against Deputy Minister David Morrison's references to Home Minister Amit Shah at Canada's Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) summoned the Canadian High Commission representative Saturday to convey India's objections and hand over a Diplomatic Note. 

India also criticised Canada for surveillance on Indian officials through audio, video monitoring and intercepting communications. The MEA protested these actions as violations of diplomatic and consular conventions warning of serious consequences for bilateral ties. 

It condemned Canada for indulging in harassment and intimidation of mission officials, stating it goes against diplomatic norms and exacerbates an already challenging environment for diplomatic and consular personnel.
