NATIONAL, October 28, 2024: The disengagement process between the Indian and Chinese armies in Depsang and Demchok locations has reached 80-90 percent completion as of Monday. This involves the removal of infrastructure and withdrawal of troops from both sides expected to be completed by Tuesday.
Relevant officials stated that progress has been smooth and that troops are engaging in relevant work.
This disengagement is a result of recent resolutions regarding the border issue, and both India and China have begun withdrawing troops from friction points. The Indian Army aims to finish the disengagement in both sectors by October 29 in order to resume coordinated patrolling, effectively ending the military standoff that began in April 2020.
India on October 21 announced a pact with China on patrolling along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh after over four-year-old military standoff.
