REGIONAL: A twelve-member multi-disciplinary team from the Centre for Contemporary China Studies (CCCS), Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), is on a visit to the North-East region from March 9 to 18.

CCCS is a think tank under India's Ministry of External Affairs that carries out research on contemporary issues related to China and provides policy recommendations to various departments of the Government of India.

The team was led by Aparna Ray, Joint Secretary, CCCS, MEA. The visit was conducted as part of an orientation programme aimed at familiarising the CCCS team with the ground situation along the Indo–Myanmar border and to understand the perspectives of the local civil and security administration in the region.

During their visit to Dimapur in Nagaland Thursday, the delegation held discussions with officials of the district civil administration at the DC’s Conference Hall. The interaction focused on issues related to possible change in law and order following the ongoing conflict in Myanmar, the prevailing security situation in the region and the reasons behind the movement of Myanmar nationals into Nagaland.

The team also sought to understand whether any emerging business or economic interests were linked to the cross-border movement. The meeting was attended by Zakabo V Rotokha, ADC, Dimapur and other officials from the district administration as well as line departments.
