REGIONAL, January 04, 2025: The Nagaland government has issued a warning to organisations and associations for issuing "shoot-at-sight" orders to kill stray dogs. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Rhosietho Nguori, has highlighted the violation of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 (PCA Act) and the Bharatiya Naya Sanhita (BNS), which prohibit the killing of animals, including stray dogs.
The order strictly prohibits any individual, organisation, or association from engaging in such activities. The Deputy Commissioner has instructed the authorities to report any stray dogs to the Municipal, Town Council Authorities in urban areas, or village authorities and Area Administrative Officers in rural areas.
The authorities will take care of the dogs according to relevant laws, and strict action will be taken against those who violate this directive.
