First state-of-the-art skin bank facility at the Army hospital

NATIONAL, June 18, 2024: The Army Hospital in New Delhi has opened a state-of-the-art skin bank facility, the first of its kind within the Armed Forces Medical Services. This bank will serve as a central hub for the collection, processing, storage, and distribution of skin grafts, providing a critical resource for military medical centers across the country.
The facility is staffed by highly-trained medical professionals, including plastic surgeons, tissue engineers, and specialised technicians and adheres to the highest standards of quality control and safety.
The launch of the skin bank is a testament to the commitment to the health and well-being of service members, and will enhance the quality of care and strengthen the ability to support those affected by serious injuries. Commandant of Army Hospital (R&R) Lt Gen Ajith Nilakantan stated that having a dedicated resource for skin tissues will provide patients with the most effective and personalised treatments, ultimately improving their chances of recovery and rehabilitation.
