AGARTALA, June 25 2022: Mevar Kumar Jamatia who failed to get a berth in new council of ministers headed by Dr Manik Saha is set to join the TIPRA led by state’s royal scion Bubagra Pradyot Kishore Debbarman. The spouse of the former forest minister Gita Debbarma already joined the regional party that is currently governing the tribal autonomous district council after registering a spectacular victory in elections last year.
The middle and lower rung leaders of the Mevar’s group Saturday announced that they would formally join the TIPRA on July 2 next. They said the decision has been taken to boost Bubagra’s vision of Thansa (Unity) as to fight for justice and rights of the indigenous and native communities.
The official faction of the IPFT headed by Narendra Chandra Debbarma, oldest minister in the council of Dr Saha, however announced its decision to continue as an ally of the BJP. But the octogenarian leader is reportedly under stress over ability to remain relevant in state’s tribal politics in view of massive surge of the TIPRA amid its ‘Greater Tipraland’ plank making a deep dent.
