NATIONAL, December 12, 2025: India is developing a secure and scalable AI-ready cloud infrastructure to enhance digital governance and empower citizens as stated by Union Minister Jitin Prasada in Rajya Sabha Friday. The establishment of the national cloud infrastructure known as “GI Cloud” or MeghRaj addresses the rising demand for cloud services due to digital transformation.
It offers features like elasticity, scalability and on-demand provisioning with 2,170 Ministries (and Departments) already utilising it. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has empaneled 26 cloud service providers, audited for compliance with international security standards.
The National Data Centres ensure security and support cloud services amid increasing digitalization and AI adoption in critical sectors with a projection of significant growth in cloud data centre capacity by 2030. Major tech firms, including Google and AWS, are investing heavily in India’s AI and data-center ecosystem, the minister stated.
