NATIONAL, July 16, 2024: The Election Commission released a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Tuesday for Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) that includes expanded options for candidates.
The SOP allows for the selection of EVMs from any polling station within an assembly constituency as well as the ability to mix and match EVM units from different polling stations.
This includes the Ballot Unit, Control Unit and VVPAT, which can be connected in any sequence. Further, the SOP permits up to 1400 votes to be cast in a mock poll in any order.
These measures aim to address concerns about hidden firmware functionality or bias through randomness and extensive testing. The diverse range of choices available ensures thorough verification of EVMs.
