Former CM Deb launched tirade against the CPI(M) state Secretary

AGARTALA, August 25, 2025: During the Left Front government, the incumbent CPI(M) state secretary, who was earlier the chairman of the state's sports organisation, allegedly hindered the selection of Dipa Karmakar for the global gymnastics events. He played no part in giving Dipa the opportunity.

Lok Sabha MP and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb claimed that during his tenure as the state BJP president, Dipa was able to participate in the international event thanks to the efforts of BJP leaders and current central minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

Deb made these accusations while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Kumarghat football tournament on Monday. The former Chief Minister indirectly criticized CPI(M) leader Jitendra Chowdhury without explicitly naming him. 

Dipa has proven herself in the international arena and brought recognition to the state and the country. However, those in power at the time did not contribute to Dipa's success as the party that ruled Tripura for years believed in the principle of "power comes from the barrel of a gun," according to Deb.

He also stated that the Communists created a confusing environment for the youth for their own political interests rather than working for the welfare of the people of Tripura.
