Adversity: Postal services to the US temporarily suspended

Due to lack of clarity in new norms issued by American customs

NATIONAL, August 23, 2025: Postal services to the US from India have been temporarily suspended due to a lack of clarity in new norms issued by the American customs department. The Ministry of Communications stated that US-bound air carriers have denied carrying shipments due to the unclear procedures for duty collection and remittance.

The Department of Posts has decided to temporarily suspend booking of all types of postal articles destined for the US with effect from August 25 except letters, documents and gift items up to US$100 in value.

These exempt categories will continue to be accepted and conveyed to the US subject to further clarifications from CBP and USPS. The Department of Posts is offering refunds of postage to customers whose articles could not be dispatched.
