AGARTALA, February 9, 2020: ‘Border Security Force - India’s First line of Defence’ in its continuous efforts towards curbing the menace of Trans border smuggling, succeeded in seizing 2,210 numbers Sarees having market value of Rs 31,38,800 in two different operations.
In the first major achievement, during the wee hours of Sunday acting on specific intelligence inputs, troops of Border Out Post Kamlasagar under Madhupur police station laid a special ambush in a tea garden, near the Indo-Bangladesh Border Fence, during which vigilant BSF troops observed suspicious movement of some miscreants with head loads approaching the border fence. BSF troops challenged the miscreants. Resultantly, the miscreants fled away from the spot towards Indian side taking advantage of darkness and thick vegetation.
The area was subjected to thorough search, leading to recovery of Sarees- 1697 Nos worth Rs 25, 45,500. Seized Sareeswere handed over to Custom Amtali.
In an another incident, on intervening night of Saturday, on specific intelligence input regarding stocking of clothing items for smuggling purpose in a house of Village Shyampara, Sabroom police station, a joint team of BSF troops of Border Out Post Shyampara and Police team carried out search in the house of Bani Tripura of Shyampara, Distt- South Tripura and recovered 513 Sarees worth Rs 5,93, 300.
However, owner of the house Bani Tripura absconded after seeing the ops party. Seized Sarees were handed over to Sabroom police station and FIR has been lodged against the house owner.
Besides above, BSF troops deployed on Indo Bangladesh border in Tripura, also succeeded in seizing other contraband items having combined market value of Rs 3,11,575 on the same night.
