REGIONAL, July 04, 2024: The Border Security Force (BSF) and the Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) recently held a four-day meeting in Shillong at the Inspectors General BSF – Regional Commanders BGB level. The purpose of the joint coordination committee meeting ended Thursday was to enhance mutual cooperation and discuss issues of bilateral interest, including insurgent activities, trans-border crimes, border violations, and pending infrastructure projects.
The focus was on resolving these issues through peaceful means and strengthening the bond of friendship, mutual trust, and cooperation between the two countries. BSF and BGB have been regularly participating in Border Co-ordination Conferences, with the most recent one taking place in Chattogram, Bangladesh in September 2023.
Over the past few years, the two forces have strengthened their friendship and developed new dimensions of mutual trust and cooperation through meaningful dialogues at various command levels. The primary objectives of the conference were to strengthen existing border management mechanisms, discuss mutual concerns, and explore new avenues for collaboration.
The conference also discussed initiatives to promote cultural and sports exchanges between the BSF and BGB, with the aim of building camaraderie, enhancing mutual respect, and trust between the forces. The agreements reached during the conference will lead to more robust and effective border management practices, attendees told newsmen.
They added that shared vision of a peaceful and secure border can only be realised through continuous dialogue and cooperation, and the two border guarding forces are committed to further strengthening their partnership in the coming months and years.
