Bangladesh situation turns horrid, shootout at BNP campaign
Supporter with criminal record killed, BNP candidate and others hurt

GLOBAL, November 05, 2025: A man was killed and a candidate of the BNP for the upcoming parliamentary polls, Ershad Ullah, was wounded during a shooting incident that occurred Wednesday during a campaign in Bayezid Bostami, Chittagong in Bangladesh’s southeast. Ershad, who is also the convenor of the BNP's Chattogram metropolitan unit and three associates were shot and subsequently hospitalised.
The deceased identified as Sarwar Hossain Babla was listed by police as a top criminal and had purportedly a BNP activist. The other injured persons named as Irfanul Haque Shanto, Aminul Haque and Mortuza Haque - all affiliated with BNP politics.
The shooting happened around 5:30 pm (Bangladesh time) near Chalitatoli East Mosque. Sarwar died at Evercare Hospital around 6:30 pm.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (North), Ameerul Islam, stated they are investigating the circumstances leading to the gunfire that erupted during Ershad's election campaigning in the area as he prepares for the upcoming parliamentary elections from Chattogram-8 (Boalkhali-Panchlaish) constituency.
