GLOBAL, July 23, 2025: The Election Commission of Bangladesh Wednesday issued new guidelines defining the rights of journalists covering elections in the country. The guidelines, titled "Policy for Journalists/Media Professionals 2025", apply to all local government polls, including district, Upazila (sub-district), union, municipality and city corporation levels.
Accredited journalists can enter polling centres and collect information, photos and videos after informing the presiding officer. However, photography is not allowed inside secret voting rooms.
Two journalists can enter a polling booth at once and interviews with election officials or voters are not permitted. Live broadcasting from within polling booths is also not allowed and direct streaming from polling booths on social media platforms prohibited.
